     Robert Sage Hotchkin was born on 10 July 1903 at Elkhart, Elkhart County, IN, USA. IN Marriage Indwex says 16 July 1903.^1,2 He was the son of Dana Herbert Hotchkin and Jeanne Grace Sage. He married Helen Lucile Roth at Goshen, Elkhart County, IN, USA, on 26 December 1926.³ Robert Sage Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1930 at Seattle, King County, WA, USA. The census lists the family as: Robert Hotchkiss, 26, married at 23, born IN, father born NY, mother born IN, accountant; wife Helen, 24, married at 21, born IN, father born NJ, mother born IN; dau Betty Jenanne, 2 3/12, born WA.. He was employed in 1957 as a Draftsman. Robert died on 29 April 1965 at Seattle, King County, WA, at age 61. Cert #007645.⁴ He was buried at Seattle, King County, WA. His body was cremated..

     Robert S. appears in the 1927 Seattle City Directory for the first time along with his wife Helen L. He had a number of jobs during his life according to the directories. He was a machine operator in 1927; a manager of a Natural Food Co. in 1928; a Secretary to E.S. Watts and Co. in 1930, and an Insurance Agent (Equitable Life) in 1932 and 1933. In 1936 he was a salesman, and in 1940 a driver. He was listed as a salesman from 1948 to 1951. The 1953 book shows him as a draftsman at Boeing and the 1957 book has him as draftsman at the Todd Ship Yards. In 1959 he is a custodian at the Presbyterian Church, which is the last job shown prior to his death in 1965. They lived, first, at 3400 E. Marion, then 4600 W. Draves until 1939 when they moved to 3816 49th NE, and then at 2912 W. Blaine.
     His obituary says that, "he came from his native Elkhart, IN in 1915. He was a draftsman at Boeing for the past five years and a member of Lafayette Lodge No. 241, F & AM. Survivors are his wife Helen, daughters, Mrs. William J. Chilcote of Bothell; Mrs. Robert C. Drake, of Great Lakes, IL; and six grandchildren."

     Eva Annabelle Hotchkin was born on 5 May 1853 at Washtenaw County, MI, USA. The 1900 census gives her birth as May 1852. At the 1860 census she is Eva A, age 7, born in MI. She was the daughter of Augustine Hall Hotchkin and Sarah Aulls. She married Sela Fitzgerald at Saline, Washtenaw County, MI, USA, on 9 August 1876. Date from obituary..      Paul Marion Hotchkin was born on 24 September 1884 at Chicago, Cook County, IL, USA.^1,2,3 He was the son of Charles Marion Hotchkin and Emma Louise Palmer. He married Jannette May Bean at Elkhart County, IN, USA, on 2 May 1906.⁴ Paul Marion Hotchkin registered for the World War I Draft on 12 September 1918 while living at Chicago, Cook County, IL, USA. The registration card gave additional information on him: "He gives his age as 34, born 24 Sep 1884. He is a manufacturer, National X-Ray Reflector Co as Curtis Light Fixture Co, located at 1119 W. Jackson, Chicago, IL. He gives his wife Jannette B. Hotchkin as a dependent. He claims no disability.". He appeared on the census of 1920 at La Grange, Cook County, IL, USA. The census lists the family as: Hotchkins, Paul, 37, b IL; Jannette, 37, b MN; dau Paula Jannette, 11, b IL; dau Marette, 9, b IL; mother Emma, 74, b NY; sister Ada Anderson, 29, b NY.. He married Edna Beth Hawk at CA, USA, after 1930.⁵ Paul Marion Hotchkin died on 12 June 1971 at San Diego, San Diego County, CA, USA, at age 86.^6,7 He was buried at Rosehill Cemetery, at Chicago, Cook County, IL, USA.⁸

     We know that Paul was born in Chicago, according to a biography published in "Who's Who in Chicago," and that he lived for a while in Elkhart, Indiana near the home of Dana H. Hotchkin. Later he is found in Los Angeles, and then San Diego, CA. His biography says that, "he was a manufacturer, son of C. Marion Hotchkin and Emma Palmer; a graduate of Lewis Institute in engineering; married Jannette May Bean of Los Angeles in 1906; and had two daughter, Paula Jannette and Marette Frances. He was a self-employed mechanical engineer from 1906 to 1908 when he joined the Curtis Lighting Co., a group of National X-Ray Reflector of New York. Since 1911 he had been a Vice President of Curtis. Paul was a Republican, Protestant and a member of the La Grange Suburban and La Grange Country Clubs. He enjoyed big game hunting and fishing. His home was at 204 S. Spring Ave, La Grange and his office at 1119 West Jackson Blvd, Chicago."
     Paul invented and patented an early shock-absorbing device called, "The Hotchkin Anti-Jolt Device." This invention is described in a small book by that title and deposited in the Chicago Public Library. At the 1910 Chicago City Directory he is listed as a Superintendent at 119 W. Jackson St, and residing at 1455 E. 54th St. The 1928 Polk Directory of Chicago has him living at 204 S. Spring St., and a Vice President of Curtis Lighting Co., in Chicago.
     Paul's Will, dated 19 October 1966 says that he was a resident of the Woodland Hills area of Los Angeles and was to be buried next to his first wife Jannett, North of #97914, Grave #6, Lot #17, Sec 3; Rose Hill Cemetery, Chicago, IL, 60626. The Will says that both of his daughters were dead at the date of his Will. Paul's Death Certificate confirms the dates of his birth and his death, which occurred at 3:15 AM at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, CA. It gives his widow as Edna Hawk Hotchkin living at 16791 Acena Drive, San Diego, CA; father Charles Hotchkin ( C. Marion Hotchkin), mother Emma Palmer, both born in New York. The certificate says that he died of Arteriosclerosis Heart Disease with Acute Myocardial. He had been a resident of California for 21 years but only 7 months in San Diego County. The Death Certificate gave his last employment as Curtis Lighting in Chicago and his job position as a mechanical engineer, where he had worked for 55 years. Poway-Bernarde Mortuary cremated Paul’s body at Eternal Hills Cemetery; but there is no indication as to whether any monument was placed on the Chicago grave where he had requested that he be buried.

     Jannette May Bean was born on 27 December 1884 at Kasson, Dodge County, MN, USA. Same birth date given in IL Deaths but birth location on this record is Huron County, SD.² She was the daughter of Frank H. Bean and Lutetia A. Filkins. She married Paul Marion Hotchkin at Elkhart County, IN, USA, on 2 May 1906.³ Jannette May Bean died on 13 February 1929 at La Grange, Cook County, IL, USA, at age 44.^4,5 She was buried at Rosehill Cemetery, at Chicago, Cook County, IL, USA.

     Information on Janette comes from records of her 1st childs birth. Their address at this birth was 4733 Lake Ave., Chicago, IL. Her death is found in the Chicago Vital Records, #615-21 and gives her address at time of death as LaGrange, IL. The symbols OT are on death records.

     Paula Jannette Hotchkin was born on 11 September 1908 at Chicago, Cook County, IL, USA. Birth announced in the Los Angeles Times.^1,2,3 She was the daughter of Paul Marion Hotchkin and Jannette May Bean. Paula Jannette Hotchkin married Robert J. Smith on 5 October 1933 at Chicago, Cook County, IL. Cook County, IL Marriages 1930 - 1960. She married Unknown Rittenhouse at IL, USA, circa 1935. Indication of this marriage is found in her father's Will.. Paula Jannette Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1940 at Beverly Hills, Los Angeles County, CA, USA. The census lists the family as: Marette Curtis (Hotchkin), Head, age 62 born 1878 in IL, head, neice Paula Hotchkin, age 30 born 1910 in IL, Single, Secretery of weights; butler Frank Rolando, age 39 born 1901 in CO; maid Grace B. Rolando, age 28 born 1912 in CA.. She died on 31 January 1998 at Prescott, Yavapai County, AZ, USA, at age 89.⁴

     The Chicago Birth Records have a birth date of 26 August 1910 for Paula Jannette and one of 11 September 1908 for Paula. It is believed that the 26 August birth is the correct one for our Paula. There is likely a confusion over Paula and Palua Jannette and possibly even the marriage to Rittenhouse if her father's Will really refered to a death date before 1966.

     Arthur Donahgy Cosgrove was born on 3 May 1926 at Detroit, Wayne County, MI, USA.¹ He was the son of Arthur Andrew Cosgrove and Annie Scahill. Arthur Donahgy Cosgrove appeared on the census of 1930 at Lansing, Ingham County, MI, USA. The census lists the family as: Arthur Cosgrove, 30, born Scotland, parents born Scotland, machinist at motor works; wife Anne, born Scotland, parents born Scotland; son Arthur D., 3 1/2, born MI.. He married Elmerna Adele Hotchkin at Angola, Steuben County, IN, USA, on 18 March 1947.² Arthur Donahgy Cosgrove died on 14 November 1964 at Petoskey, Emmet County, MI, USA, at age 38. Her baptism was conducted with her brother Nelson on 12 June, 1808 and is recorded in Richmond, MA Birth Records..¹ She was the daughter of William Grover Gaston and Tabitha Hochkin. Elvira Gaston died on 28 July 1874 at New Haven, New Haven County, CT, USA, at age 72. She was buried at Grove Street Cemetery, at New Haven, New Haven County, CT, USA.

     Mary Louise Hotchkin was born on 29 August 1912 at Klamath Agency, Klamath County, OR, USA. She was the daughter of Alexander Semple Hotchkin and Jennie F. Russell. Mary Louise Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1930 at Berkeley, Alameda County, CA, USA. The census lists the family as: She is listed as Louise, age 17, single and living with her sister Margarite listed as Myrite I. White, as 43, widow, married at age 18. Margarite's age is way off.. She married Bruce Vern Wood at Oakland, Alameda County, CA, USA, on 31 December 1930.¹ Mary Louise Hotchkin was employed in 1935 as a Church Secretary. She resided at Portland, Multnomah County, OR, USA, in 1991. She died on 28 August 2003 at Saratoga, Santa Clara County, CA, USA, at age 90.

     Claude Ell Masters was born on 22 April 1902 at Josephine County, OR, USA.^3,4 He was the son of Henry Dudley Masters and Minnie B. Morey. Claude Ell Masters appeared on the census of 1920 at Crescent City, Del Norte County, CA, USA. The census lists the family as: Claude Masters, 17, single, born OR, father born OR, mother born CO, labor in lumber mill.. He married Ruth Eleanor Hotchkin at CA, USA, on 21 December 1928.³ Claude Ell Masters was a Surveyor in 1964. He resided at Grants Pass, Josephine County, OR, USA, in 1964.      Rex Purman Caseman was buried at remated. He was born on 12 September 1905 at PA, USA. Likely born in Greene County, PA where the family resided at the 1910 census. Son of Truman and Jennie Caseman.¹ He married Margaret Jean (Margerite) Hotchkin at Klamath Falls, Klamath County, OR, USA, on 5 August 1933. They were married by Rev Arthur Bates, MG and the wedding was witnessed by her sister, Lucy Carson and her mother Mrs A. S. Hotchkin.. He married Florence Alexandria (Bessie) Hotchkin at Klamath Falls, Klamath County, OR, circa 1935.² He resided at Crescent City, Del Norte County, CA, USA. Rex Purman Caseman died on 22 August 1976 at Seattle, King County, WA, USA, at age 70.^3,4

     Rex first married Margaret and then after her death he married her sister Florence (Bessie).

She married Lester Charles Berndt at Redding, Shasta County, CA, USA, on 27 December 1953.³ Billie Jean Carson died on 23 March 1989 at Vancouver, Clark County, WA, USA, at age 60.^1,4 She was buried at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, at Vancouver, Clark County, WA, USA.

     Robert Henry Carson II was born on 14 November 1925 at Fresno, Fresno County, CA, USA.³ He was the son of Robert Henry Carson Jr. and Lucy Pearl (Luke) Hotchkin. He married Sally Ann Sparks at CA, USA, on 21 June 1952.¹ He resided at Medford, Jackson County, OR, USA, in 1994. Robert Henry Carson II died on 4 December 2012 at Seattle, King County, WA, USA, at age 87.

     Robert Henry Carson Jr. was born on 22 November 1903 at Redding, Shasta County, CA, USA.² He married Lucy Pearl (Luke) Hotchkin at CA, USA, on 19 May 1924.² Robert Henry Carson Jr. appeared on the census of 1930 at Klamath Falls, Klamath County, OR, USA. The census lists the family as: Robert H.      William Russell Hotchkin Jr. was born on 10 April 1930 at Klamath Falls, Klamath County, OR, USA. Date on gravestone.¹ He was the son of William Russell Hotchkin Sr. and Sula Frances McLane. William Russell Hotchkin Jr. was a OREGON CPL 245 TANK BN KOREA, andserved. He married Jean Annette Jamieson at Klamath Falls, Klamath County, OR, circa 1955.² William died on 14 April 1967 at Klamath Falls, Klamath County, OR, at age 37. Death Cert #5149.^3,1 He was buried at Eternal Hills Cemetery, at Klamath Falls, Klamath County, OR, USA.

     Wards Funeral Home in Klamath Falls holds funeral records for William R. Jr. These records give a birth date of 10 April 1930 in Klamath Falls, OR. Social Security Records confirm this date. The funeral records show that his wife Jean and sons Dwayne and Darrell, all of Klamath Falls, plus sisters Mary Ellen Hankins of Portland and Barbara Jones of Carlsbad, New Mexico, survived him. It is the Compiler understanding that Jean remarried and moved to Alaska with her sons. A relative said in 1993 that Jean had died and one son was still in Alaska and the other was living in the Seattle area.
     William is listed in a number of Klamath City Directories starting with 1949-50. At this time he is a parts-man for Rose Motor Co. and lives at 529 Torrey. In the 1955 Directory, William R. Jr. is married to Jean A. and is a salesman for Parker Pontiac, and lives at 2043 White Ave. By the 1958 City Directory, Jean A. is an employee at the Klamath Chamber of Commerce and William R. Jr. is now a salesman for Eccles Motor Company and they live at 204 Nevada Ave. In the 1959 Directory William R. Jr. has made another job change to the Basin Motors Company. In 1960 Jean is now a bookkeeper for Fred E. Barnett Company of Oregon and William Jr. is still with Basin Motors. The last available Directory for 1961 mentions William Jr. and Jean but does not give a business location for Jean; however, William Jr. is back with Eccles Motors where he worked in 1958.¹

     Barbara Lee Hotchkin was born on 25 September 1926 at Klamath Falls, Klamath County, OR, USA.^2,3 She was the daughter of William Russell Hotchkin Sr. and Sula Frances McLane. She married Charles Leonard Jones at Klamath Falls, Klamath County, OR, on 22 December 1943.⁴ Barbara Lee Hotchkin died in April 1982 at Downey, Los Angeles County, CA, USA, at age 55.³

     The Oregon Marriage files, Vol. 22, pg 263, have the records of her marriage to Charles Leonard Jones or also reported as James Charles Leonard. She was 17 and he 19 so the parents had to give their consent. The records show Frances M. Padgett and C. C. Jones giving consent.

     Mary Ellen Hotchkin was born on 20 March 1925 at Klamath Falls, Klamath County, OR, USA. She was the daughter of William Russell Hotchkin Sr. and Sula Frances McLane. She married Jesse Dale Hankins at Klamath Falls, Klamath County, OR, on 7 February 1948.¹ She resided at Klamath Falls, Klamath County, OR, in 1992. Mary Ellen Hotchkin died on 22 January 2002 at Klamath Falls, Klamath County, OR, at age 76.²

     The Compiler and his wife paid Mary Ellen a visit and got a lot of family information. Unfortunely, I informed her that her father had a first marriage, a fact that she said her father had always denied.
