George Mead Hotchkin II was born in 1798.3 He was the son of George M. Hodgkin and Sarah Unknown. He married Harriet Curtis circa 1818. George Mead Hotchkin II appeared on the census of 1830 at Chatham, Columbia County, NY, USA. The census lists the family as: George M. Hotchkin, 1 male under 5, 1 male 5 to 10, 1 male 30 to 40; 1 female 15 to 20, 1 female 20 to 30.. He lived in 1846 at Troy, Rensselaer County, NY, USA. A biography in Troy history gives this date. He died on 17 June 1847 at Troy, Rensselaer County, NY. His biogphy said that he died one year after moving to Troy and his wife survivied him by only 6 weeks..3
He is listed in the 1840 census of Chatham, Columbia Co., NY with a wife, 3 male children and one female child. The obituary of his son Albert L. Sr in the Seattle Post Intelligence gives the family relationship and says that Albert is the youngest of three boys. George was a tax collector in Chatham during the years 1833, 1834 and 1836 according to the History of Columbia County New York. The History of Rensselaer County says that he settled in Columbia County about 1830 and married Harriet Curtis of VT, and they reared a family of three sons and one daughter. He was a farmer by occupation, in politics a Whig. He moved to Troy in 1846 and died the following year at age 53, according to his sons biography; but according to George's obituary, he was age 48 when he died.

He died of typus in Tripoli on a medical mission..
Ira was a physician and surgeon at the Presbyterian Mission at Tripoli, Syria and died there of typhus. He is buried in Tripoli. Ara Elsie Harris, his daughter by his first wife Ara, was a Missionary in India along with her husband Burl. They received the Victoria Cross for their work with leprosy.
