Mr. Berndt was born Oct. 18, 1921, in Clintonville, Wis. He moved to Washington after serving in India with the Army during World War II. He worked as a sales representative for the Mack Truck Co. in the fire truck division.

In 1993, he returned to Wisconsin where he was active in the Beaver Dam Rotary Club. He was given the Paul Harris Fellowship award this May.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie, in 1989. Survivors include one daughter, Karen Berndt of Seattle; three sons, Steve and Bob, both of Seattle and Richard of Bainbridge Island; and a special friend, Betty Faas of Beaver Dam.

The body will be cremated and a private family service will be in Seattle. Murray Community Funeral Home in Beaver Dam is in charge of arrangements..

Shirley Hotchkin-Grant, 78, Winfield, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at Good Samaritan Village in Winfield with her family by her side. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery. Survivors include her companion, Wayne Grant, Winfield; sons, Darrell Hotchkin, Burden, Stephen Hotchkin, Winfield, and Randy Hotchkin, Oxford; sister, Marilyn Sheely, Ponca City; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchidlren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin G. Grant; infant son, Kris Hotchkin; her two brothers, Vernon and Richard Snook; sister, Norma Snook; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.

ARKANSAS CITY Randy Gene Hotchkin, 57, of Arkansas City, died Aug. 8, 2009, as a result of a motorcycle accident.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Highland Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A Randy Hotchkin Memorial has been established. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
