Charles Curtis (Carl) McIntire Jr.

M, (17 May 1906 - 19 March 2002)
Hettie Daughtery Hotchkin McIntire with children Carl, Helen, Blair and Forrest
Charles Curtis (Carl) McIntire Jr. was born on 17 May 1906 at Ypsilanti, Washtenaw County, MI, USA. According to his son, he was born in the manse of the First Presbyterian Church.1 He was the son of Charles Curtis McIntire and Hettie Daughtery Hotchkin. He married Fairy Eunice Davis on 27 May 1931. He resided at Collingswood, Camden County, NJ, USA, in 1990. Charles Curtis (Carl) McIntire Jr. died on 19 March 2002 at Collingswood, Camden County, NJ, at age 95.2,1 He was buried at Harleigh Cemetery, at Camden, Camden County, NJ, USA.

Carl was Pastor of the Bible Presbyterian Church of Collinswood, NJ and President of the International Council Christian Churchs.
McIntire was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the oldest of four children of Charles Curtis McIntire, a Presbyterian minister and M.A. graduate of Princeton University, and Hettie Hotchkin McIntire, a history teacher and later a college dean. Carl spent most of his youth in Oklahoma, where both his maternal grandparents were Presbyterian missionaries in the Choctaw Nation. McIntire completed high school in Durant, in southeastern Oklahoma and attended Southeastern State Teachers College (now Southeastern Oklahoma State University) in Durant. He transfered to Park College, Parkville, Missouri, where he received his B.A. degree before entering Princeton Theological Seminary, New Jersey in 1928 to prepare for the Presbyterian ministry
In the late 1920s, Princeton Seminary was embroiled in the Fundamentalist-Modernist controversy that had disquieted the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America as well as other Protestant denominations. McIntire became a strong supporter of J. Gresham Machen, a noted conservative professor of New Testament. With Machen, McIntire opposed a reorganization of the seminary in 1929 that appeared to strengthen liberal elements in the church, and McIntire followed his mentor and three other professors out of Princeton to the newly founded Westminster Theological Seminary, where he completed his Th.B. degree in 1931.
In May 1931, he married Fairy Eunice Davis (December 23, 1906 – September 13, 1992) of Paris, Texas, whom he had met when they were both students at Southeastern. She had become a high school English teacher while he continued his studies. They had three children. After Fairy Davis McIntire died in 1992, Carl McIntire married Alice Goff, a church office administrator with whom he had worked for many years.
His biography by Ron Moody said; "Last of the 20th century's fighting religious fundamentalist. Exhaustive preacher, writer and publisher. Known for his motto "A man who will not use his freedom to defend his freedom does not deserve his freedom."

She was buried at Shelton Memorial Park, at Shelton, Mason County, WA, USA.

In notes of Ebenezer Jr., he refers to Fannie as a preacher and teacher. He also says that she married Dalzell- Beinsen. The compiler suspects that this refers to two separate marriages; first Dalzell and second Brinsin. Volume II of The History of the State of Oklahoma, says that she is now Mrs. Delzell and a teacher in the Presbyterian College.
Fanny must have been living near her brother Henry in the late 1920's as she and he are the Grantees of property from the Klamath Development Co. on 18 April 1916. She is called Fanny Delzell. On 20 December 1920, Henry Quit Claims property to Fanny McClure, wife of W.N. McClure.

Henry Hotchkin was born on 30 October 1866 at Livingland, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, USA.1 He was the son of Henry W. Hotchkin and Mary Jane Semple. He married Luella Johnson at Durant, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, USA, in 1889. Date from 1900 census, married 10 years.. He resided at Portland, Multnomah County, OR, USA, in 1891. His occupation is bookkeeper and he boards at Mt Tabor.. Henry Hotchkin was employed by J. M. Arthur & Co in 1893 at Portland, Multnomah County, OR, as He was a Cashier and the City Directory called him Henry T. He and Luella Johnson were divorced on 16 July 1902 at El Paso County, TX, USA.2 Henry Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1920 at Klamath Agency, Klamath County, OR, USA. The census lists the family as: Hotchkin, Henry, age 53, b TX; roomer Elizabeth Russell, age 65, widow, b England (his brothers mother-in-law); nephew Eugene L., age 25, b OK.8 101 11 6. He died on 18 January 1936 at Klamath Falls, Klamath County, OR, USA, at age 69. Death Cert 16.3,4 He was buried on 20 January 1936 at Linkville Pioneer Cemetery, at Klamath Falls, Klamath County, OR, USA. Cemetery records say that he has no stone..

Little is known about Henry except the information that appears in the O'Hairs Funeral Home records and his Will which was admitted to Probate on 24 January 1936 in Klamath Co., OR. He was a Rancher and Stockman and lived in Beatty, Klamath Co., OR. His wife's name was Luella Holwe or Hilland, but they were divorced at the time of his death (the records are very hard to read and it is not clear whether they are divorced or she is dead, but she did not attend the funeral). The funeral arrangements and payment were made by his daughter, Mrs Marie Baldwin of San Francisco (Marie is also called Mary in the Will). At this date, she lived at 1275 Bay Street, San Francisco. The Will says that his personal property consisted of a team, some cattle and farm machinery; all valued at about $500 and his real estate was 400 acres of pasture land and sage brush, near Beatty, OR. This property was valued at approximately $3,000, but had a mortgage of $1,500. The Will doesn't give an age for Marie but says that daughter Hazel is aged about 40 years. Hazel's address is given as Whitney, OR. Fred is not mentioned so he may be dead at this date. Funeral records say that Henry had lived in Oregon for twenty five years; making his entry into the state about 1911. These records also say that he was born in Texas, where we have him born in Livingland, Indian Territory. The records give his father as Henry Hotchkin, born in Mississippi (known to not be true) and his mother Mary Semple, born in Ohio. Henry Jr.'s birth in Texas may be true as the family lived along the Red River dividing Oklahoma and Texas and were known to have lived on both sides of the river at various times. A real estate record, dated 18 April 1916 shows a transfer from the Klamath Development Co., to Fannie H. Delzell and Henry Hotchkin of Chiloquin. On 20 December 1920 he Quit Claimed property to Fannie McClure and her husband, W. N. McClure, in Klamath Co., OR.
His mother Mary wrote a little about him in her autobiography. She said that he spent several years in Colorado where he was a contractor for the state and was a farmer, rancher and miner. From Colorado he went to Oregon where he was a contractor for the state. She said that he died at Klamath Falls.
