William Morris Pickett
M, (20 October 1810 - 13 November 1887)
William Morris Pickett was born on 20 October 1810 at Plainfield, Windham County, CT, USA. Age 59 at the 1970 Census. Birth comes from his obituary. He married Sarah Unknown circa 1835 at NY, USA. He married Anna Hotchkin at KS, USA, before 1851. William Morris Pickett appeared on the census of 1870 at Manhattan, Riley County, KS, USA. The census lists the family as: William Pickett, 59, farmer, born CT; Annie, 58, born CT; Elza, can not read, looks like 97 , born NY; Thomas, 18, born NY.. He died on 13 November 1887 at Manhattan, Riley County, KS, at age 77. He died at the home of his son Morris.
From Pioneers of the Bluestem Prairie:
William married Ann McCumsey Hotchkins.
They came to Topeka in 1857, and then on to Manhattan.
They were the parents of Lydia Phillips, Mary Agusta Ferguson, Marjorie Young, Olive Anna Dodge, Thomas Weller Pickett, and Morris Pickett. In additon, a son and daughter died in infancy.. He was buried at Sunset Cemetery, at Manhattan, Riley County, KS, USA.
Judy Kimball of Kansas disputes the Compilers marriage date for Anna and says that they were married in 1836 and Anna is the mother of all of the children. An Obituary of William Morris Prickett supports the date supplied by Judy. The appearance of Sarah and Hannah in the 1850 and 1860 census is still unexplained and marriage to Ludington may be an error although George W. and Fred G. Ludington were joint Excecutors of William's Estate.
