She married Alfred Carl Carstens at MN. Grace Winifred Golz died on 19 October 2014 at MN, USA, at age 90. Grace Carstens, age 90, of Canby, MN, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Sanford Canby Medical Center.
Grace Winfred Carstens was born in Oshkosh Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota on May 15, 1924 to parents Louis and Dora (Meisner) Golz. She was baptized and confirmed at the Nicolai Lutheran Church. She attended country school district 39.
Grace was united in marriage to Alfred Carstens at the Nicolai Lutheran Church in Canby and to this union they were blessed with five sons. Alfred was killed in August of 1960 on the farm from the result of a tractor roll over and Grace was left to raise her five sons by herself. She was a lifelong resident of Oshkosh Township. For many years Grace was the secretary treasurer of the local chapter of the AAL.
She enjoyed her chickens and tending to her garden. She also enjoyed doing handy work such as crocheting and latch hook. Word finds were also a favorite pastime of Grace as well as watching various TV programs. Spending time with family and friends brought true enjoyment to Grace’s life.
Grace was a lifelong member of Nicolai Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ladies Aide and the Alter Guild. She was also an associated member of the Buffalo Ridge 2-Cylinder Club and the she was active with the Canby Hospital Auxiliary.
Grateful for having shared Grace’s life are her four sons: Harold (Joyce) Carstens of Hector, MN, August (Susan) Carstens of Cook, MN, George Carstens of Canby, Alfred (Cheryl) Carstens of Garretson, SD; one daughter-in-law, LorRae Carstens of Canby and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, also many nieces, nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Dora Golz; her husband, Alfred; one son, Fredrick; one granddaughter, Sarah Carstens; one brother, Henry Golz and one aunt, Augusta Meisner.
