He was born Feb. 26, 1924, in Toledo, Ohio, son of the late Wilbur McKee and Helen Bartlett White.
He was a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corp. during World War II, serving from 1942 to 1945.
He graduated with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Ohio State University. He was an executive vice president, Glass Division, of PPG Industries, Pittsburgh, for 34 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Brackenridge, Brackenridge Heights Country Club, Oakmont Yacht Club, River Forest Yacht Club, Pittsburgh Power Squadron, Elks, Past Commodore of Pittsburgh Syria Mariners, Mason with Queen City Masonic Lodge, Cumberland, Md., Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Royal Arch Masons, Knights Templar, Syria Shriners, York Rite, Skyview Radio Club, PA Society of Professional Land Surveyors, Society of Automotive Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, past board member of Allegheny Valley Hospital and past vestry member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. John enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, being a ham radio operator, genealogy and building clocks.
