The census lists the family as: William Todd, 72, farmer, born NY, parents born CT; wife Marietta, 62, norn NY, parents born NJ; grandson Charles Hotchkin, 10, at school, born MI, father born NY, mother born MI.. He died on 2 March 1882 at Spring Arbor, Jackson County, MI, at age 74.2 He was buried at Spring Arbor Cemetery, at Spring Arbor, Jackson County, MI, USA.

     William Todd came to Washtenaw Co., MI in 1832 and to Spring Arbor in 1836. He was an early land owner in the area and owned several hundred acres west of Spring Arbor in Section 20.

     Norman Blackburn Sage was born on 6 March 1819 at Portland, Chautauqua County, NY, USA.1 He married Juno Amelia Adams at Adamsville, Cass County, MI, USA, on 27 January 1842. He married Elizabeth Jane Adams at Oshkosh, Winnebago County, WI, USA, on 20 December 1859.1 Norman Blackburn Sage appeared on the census of 1870 at Elkhart, Elkhart County, IN, USA. The census lists the family as: Norman Sage, 51, born NY, Mill Propriator; Eliz J., 31, born VT; Charles S., 18, born MI, clerk; Frank A, 9, born MI.. He died on 4 April 1913 at Elkhart, Elkhart County, IN, at age 94.1 He was buried at Grace Lawn Cemetery, at Elkhart, Elkhart County, IN, USA.

     According to the Sage Genealogy, Norman came to Cass County, MI with his father Moses Sage Jr. in 1834, and with his brother, Martin G, carried on the business of merchandising, milling, and farming at Adamsville. After moving to Elkhart, IN in 1869, he became interested in many business activities in that city, including banking, and at the time of his death he was one of Elkhart’s wealthiest citizens. His old home, a large brick structure, stands on Division Street.

     Joseph is found in the NY 1810 census as J. Hotchkin living in Otsego Co., NY. He is not in the 1820 census unless he is the Joseph Hotchkiss of Onondaga Co., and is not found in the 1830 census. The baptism records of his daughters have the name as Hotckins.
