A family graveside service and burial will take place at a later date in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas. Memorials: Contributions may be made to www.shrinershospitalfor children.org or www.alz.org. LaVerna was born in Wynnewood, Okla., on July 30, 1920, to Hug R. Walner and Pauline Jackson Walner. She grew up in Wynnewood, where her grandparents were the original settlers in 1886. After completing public school, she moved to Oklahoma City to pursue a business career. She was employed by Retail Credit Co. and Hartford Insurance Co. in Oklahoma City until she married Wendell Max Chantry in Pittsburgh, Pa., on June 23, 1943. Wendell was on military duty with the Army during World War II. After he completed military service in Chicago, Alabama and Pittsburgh, his jobs in the oil industry took the couple to Oklahoma City, Davenport and Stroud, Okla., and then to Midland, Fort Worth and Arlington. She returned to the business world in Fort Worth and retired from USPA & IRA (now First Command Financial Planning) after 20 years of service. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Fort Worth and the Twosome Sunday School Class. LaVerna's parents; brothers, Richard and Paul Walner; and sister, Pat Rutherford, all preceded her in death. Survivors: Her husband of 69 years; daughter, Carol Chantry Powers and her husband, Joe B. Powers, of Arlington; grandchildren, Adam Powers of Houston and Paige Wallace and husband, Ryan, of Arlington; twin great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews..
