     Esther Mitchell was born on 9 November 1810 at Lower Makefield, Bucks County, PA, USA. She married Sotan Sanford, son of Elisaph E. Sanford and Rebecca Wheeler, on 29 March 1832 at Springwater, Livingston County, NY, USA. Esther Mitchell died on 13 September 1901 at Wayland, Steuben County, NY, USA, at age 90. A Pioneer Gone. Ester Mitchell Sanford was born November 9, 1810, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Isaac Stalee, in Wayland, NY, September 18, 1901. Mrs. Sanford was one of a family of ten children born to Mahlon and Lotetia Mitchell, of whom but one sister survives her. Of this venerable woman much might be said but, her life, long and faithful, being so well known it is unnecessary. To those more intimately conversant with her inner heart her worth was more appreciated, and her loss will be more deeply felt as they, with the entire community; will feel more and more as the drifting sands lay bare the need of her strong arm and motherly councils in the family and society. The deceased was one who has braved the storms of life for more than four score and ten years, suffered the privations of pioneer life, and reared a family of thirteen children, most of whom grew up to manhood and womanhood as an ornament of society, an honor to themselves, and a blessing to the world. About seventy years ago she was united in marriage to Soton Sanford and for several years resided in Garlinghouse. After the death of Mr. Sanford she removed to Minnesota where she resided for a number of years. Since then she has lived with her children here. Mrs. Sanford was truly one of those whose heart and life were fully consecrated to Christ. She lived in constant victory, and died in blessed triumph. She possessed an even temper, calm, peaceful and hopeful. From the earthly home, inhabited by her for more than ninety years, she has gone to her eternal home in the "Many Mansions." The burdens of life are laid down, hers is the rest that remaineth to the people of God. She leaves a large circle of friends to mourn her loss, including seven children, twenty-nine grand children, thirty-two great grandchildren. Her funeral was held at Wayland, N Y, September 16, her pastor, Rev. Janes assisted b y Rev. Dice, officiating. The burial was in the family lot in the Garlinghouse cemetery by the side ofher husband who died December [26, 1858?]
