John Adams Prentiss1

M, (31 July 1761 - 1 November 1840)
     John Adams Prentiss was born on 31 July 1761 at Lancaster, Worcester County, MA, USA. He was the son of Stanton Prentice Dr. and Rebecca Stevens. John Adams Prentiss was a Private, andserved in John Giles Company, Col Crafts Regt, during the revolutionary War. He married Martha Bridge at Lancaster, Worcester County, MA, on 22 January 1791. John Adams Prentiss appeared on the census of 1800 at Lancaster, Worcester County, MA. The census lists the family as: John Prentiss, 3 males under age 10, 1 male age 10 to 15, 1 male age 25 to 45; 2 female under age 10, 2 female age 16 to 25, 1 female age 26 to 45.. He died on 1 November 1840 at Pulteney, Steuben County, NY, USA, at age 79. In Pultney on Sunday 1st November last, John Prentiss Esq, in the 80th year of his age. Mr Prentiss was a native of Lancaster, Worcester County, Mass. In the early part of his life he went to Vermont as a surveyor, purchased and cleared a farm in the town of Rutland. His health failing, he commenced the mercantile business continuing it for 6-8 years; he then returned to his native place and continued in commercial pursuits until the beginning of the late war, at which time he took final leave of Lancaster, came to this country and purchased the farm in Pultney on which he resided until his death. Interred in the public burying ground of the Presbyterian Society of Pultney, Rev James H Hotchkin performed the service.. He was buried at Glenview Cemetery, at Pulteney, Steuben County, NY, USA.

     The name was changed from Prentice to Prentiss at the move to Pulteney in 1813.

     George F. Case Dr. was born on 24 July 1830 at Shrewsbury, Rutland County, VT, USA.2 Heserved during the Civil War. He married Amanda Simmons Hotchkin at NY, USA, circa 1870.3 George F. Case Dr. appeared on the census of 1870 at Pulteney, Steuben County, NY, USA. The census lists the family as: George F. Case, 40, Physician, born in VT, residing in the home of Frances O. Gulich, 43.. He died on 8 August 1875 at Steuben County, NY, USA, at age 45. Not with his wife and son at the 1880 census..2 He was buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, at Howard, Steuben County, NY, USA.

     Dr. George F. Case was a Civil War soldier, Capt. John Slocum's Co. A, 189th Regt. of the NY Volunteers. He enrolled 2 September 1864 and was discharged 30 May 1865 at the age of 35. He was born in Shrewsbury, VT and moved to Howard, NY with his parents about 1834.
