She married John Lawrence Hotchkin at Grinnell, Poweshiek County, IA, USA, on 12 May 1929. Florence Kathryn Cutler died on 14 November 2009 at Grinnell, Poweshiek County, IA, at age 101. She was buried at Hazelwood Cemetery, at Grinnell, Poweshiek County, IA, USA.

     Obituary
Florence was born on February 29, 1908, at the family home near Indianola to James and Elizabeth Hall Cutler. As a child, she lived in South Dakota and returned to Madison County where her family farmed. Florence attended a variety of schools and later graduated from Ottumwa Heights High School in Ottumwa with the Class of 1925. She was also a graduate of Mercy Hospital’s School of Nursing. On May 12, 1929 she was married to John Hotchkin in Grinnell and to this union was born two sons, John and Michael. The couple lived in Grinnell and she worked as a nurse at the former St. Francis Hospital for several years. Florence was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Grinnell and she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society and other functions of the church. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting, playing cards and Scrabble, and fishing trips with her family. She is survived by her son, Michael (Doris) Hotchkin of Grinnell; four grandchildren, Dan (Leslie) Hotchkin of Palatine, IL, Kathy (Ken) Groenbeck of Davenport, IA, Patti (Scott) Splavec of West Des Moines, IA and Tim Hotchkin of St. Paul, MN; seven great grandchildren, Erin, Jonathon and Jessica Hotchkin, Mitchell and Kaitlyn Groenbeck, Chelsey Stanley and Michael Splavec; one great great granddaughter, Audrey Henning; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Hotchkin; one son, John Rodney Hotchkin; three brothers, Edward, James and Joseph Cutler; and two sisters, Mary Irwin and Margaret Holland.
Memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Parish Foundation or to the Second Mile in Grinnell.

Visitation: 5 pm to 7 pm on Friday with a Scripture Service @ 7:00 p.m. November 13, 2009 at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, Iowa

John Rodney Hotchkin, 10 year old
son of Mr. & Mrs. John Hotchkin died
last Saturday in the Glenwood hospital,
where he had been a patient for three
years. The youngster was born at the
Mercy hospital at Des Moines on Oct 10,
1930. He was an invalid throughout his
brief life.
Surviving are the parents and a brother,
Michael.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon
at 2:30 o'clock at St. Mary's church, with
Rev. Paul D. Moore in charge. Burial was
at Hazelwood. Pall bearers were Dickie &
Jackie Holland, Tom & James Irwin, all of
Des Moines, cousins of the little Hotchkin
boy.
Out-of-town people at the funeral included
Mr. & Mrs. Tom Irwin, Mr. & Mrs. Elmer
Holland and Joseph Cutler all of Des Moines.. He was buried at Hazelwood Cemetery, at Grinnell, Poweshiek County, IA, USA.

     Gerald Thomas (Tom) Hotchkin was born on 28 April 1943 at Grinnell, Poweshiek County, IA, USA. Obituary.1 He was the son of Gerald Leo Hotchkin and Martha Tamer(Dolly) Eames. He married Dorothy Marie Peak at First United Presbyterian Church, Grinnell, Poweshiek County, IA, USA, on 10 April 1965. Gerald Thomas (Tom) Hotchkin died on 15 April 2012 at Grinnell, Poweshiek County, IA, at age 68. Tom Hotchkin, 68, of Grinnell, died April 15, 2012, at his home.

A graveside service and burial will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Chester Cemetery, north of Grinnell with Pastor John Epperson, Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Military rites will be performed by the Newburg American Legion Post #640.

Visitation with the family present will be held at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell from 4:00 to 7:00 Thursday evening.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Tom Hotchkin memorial fund to benefit the Grinnell Regional Hospice, Grinnell Christian Church and Soldier's Best Friend, an organization to provide therapeutic companion dogs for the United States military veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Tom was born in Grinnell on April 28, 1943. The son of Gerald Michael and Martha "Dolly" Tamer (Eames) Hotchkin. He was raised in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1961. As a veteran of the United States Army, he served in Vietnam with the 6th Battalion, 27th Artillery.

Tom was united in marriage to Marie Peak on April 10, 1965 at the First United Presbyterian Church in Grinnell. The couple lived in El Paso, Texas where Tom was stationed; Gilman, Iowa and then made their home in Grinnell. Over the years he was employed with Wilcox-Garland Furniture Store, Iowa Southern Utilities, Chief Alfalfa and most recently Grinnell College in the Facilities Management Department where he retired in 2006.

Tom has been a member of the Grinnell Christian Church, Jaycees, Grinnell Elks Lodge, Vietnam Veterans of America, and served 45 years with Newburg American Legion Post #640.

Tom was very proud of his family and he loved them dearly. He enjoyed polishing vehicles, woodworking, matting pictures, framing art and tinkering with just about anything. His hands were always busy. Tom loved people and visiting with family and friends, especially when he could bring a "smile" to their face. He held a passion for his country, a love of camping, the outdoors, and his dog, Syd. Tom loved to dance. He often impressed spectators with his dancing skills, at one time given the local title as King of Rock'n Roll.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Marie; two children, Randy Hotchkin of Ellsworth Air Force Base, Rapid City, South Dakota and Angie Hotchkin of New Sharon; two sisters, Maridean Tharp and Marty Meredith, one brother, Jim "Whitey" Hotchkin all of Grinnell; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents..1 He was buried at Chester Cemetery, at Grinnell, Poweshiek County, IA, USA.
