     William (Will) M. Walner Jr. was born in 1854 at Indian Territory, USA. This date is not confirmed. He is described as the 3rd child of Dr William Walner and Susan Carter. He was the son of William M. Walner Dr. and Susan Carter. He married Lena Hotchkin at Indian Territory circa 1878.2 He resided at Durant, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, USA, in 1885. William (Will) M. Walner Jr. died on 4 January 1894 at Pauls Valley, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, USA. Mary Semple Hotchkin in her autobiography says that William died the year after Lena and was buried on the Walner ranch beside his wife.. He was buried at Phantom Hill Cemetery, at Pauls Valley, Garvin County, OK, USA. No stone has been found for William..

     The original information on the Walner family came from Peggy Stephenson, wife of Charles, who was a son of Mary Lloyd Hotchkin. These notes are believed to be written by Ebenezer Hotchkin Jr.
     Much has been added later from other researchers.
     Mary Semple Hotchkin in her autobiography says that she took in Robert, John, James and Ebenezer and the fifth boy Frank went to live with a neighbor, Mr and Mrs Allen and called them Mama and Papa.3

Dr. William M. Walner
     William M. Walner Dr. was born on 28 November 1816 at Richmond, Richmond City, VA, USA. He married Susan Carter, daughter of Kilpatrick Carter and Phalishta (Malacha) Colbert, circa 1845 at Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, USA. William M. Walner Dr. died on 23 March 1884 at Paoli, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, USA, at age 67. He was buried at Dulin Family Cemetery, at Garvin County, OK, USA.

     Little is know about William's childhood but one descendant was told that he attended Yale University.
     The 1860 census of Chickasaw District, Indian Territory lists him as 41 years old, a physician, born in Virginia, with a oersonal estate valued at $10,000. The 1860 Indian Territory Slave Schedules list him as having 10 slaves, 9 black and 1 mulatto and two slave houses. The 1878 Annuity Rolls list William Walner Sr. with 1 male, 1 female and 2 children. also listed in these rolls is William Walner Jr. At this time he was living in Blue County, Choctaw Nation. At the time of his death, he ws living in Cherokee Town, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory. Cherokee Town was located between Pauls Valley and Wynnwood on the east side of the Washita River.
     Much of the material on this family comes from William Walner Dulin, a great-great grandson of Dr. William Walner.


When Dr. Walner left VA for Indian Territory, his father gave him two mules and a slave.

He married Susan Carter, b 1829, in Colbert Co, Al. the daughter of Kilpatrick Carter and Phalishta ‘Pat' Colbert Carter. (Kilpatrick, b Ireland, settled among the Chickasaws abt 1817, and was hired by his future father-in-law, Levi Colbert, to build a new home at Buzzard Roost, (Colbert Co, Al). Phalishta's mother was Mintahoyo, House of Imatapo, and Levi, being 1/2 Chickasaw was an important chief of the tribe. Eventually, the Buzzard Roost home was given to the Carters.

Published for the Doaksville area, Nov 9th, 1848, was his Professional Services advertisement as a physician open for practice. Dr. Walner, who had served in the Civil War as a Confederate Army surgeon, was one of the pioneer settlers at a stage station on the Washita River in the Chickasaw Nation known as Cherokee Town.

Dr. Walner and Susan's 5 children were:
1. Wm, Jr. (Will), 2. John H., 3. Pocahontas, 4. Alice (Mrs. W.A. Welch), and 5. Susie E.

Son John H. Walner was a U.S. Deputy Marshall and a Chickasaw Indian Policeman. In 1886, he moved from Cherokee Town to Wynnewood, est. 1887, originally named Walner, to set up a store.

Daughter Pocahontas md James Dulin in 1871; first living on Blue River west of Caddo. Children Susie and Simpson (Simp) were born there, and In 1878 the family moved to Pontotoc Co., of the Chickisaw Nation. It was here that the town of Paoli was established on his property, after the railroad was built in 1886. Pocahontas died in childbirth in April 1879. James d Nov 6, 1895. A bio for Pvt. At the time of his death he was living at Cherokee Town, Chickasaw Nation, a major town in Garvin Co., between Pauls Valley and Wynnewood, on the east side of the Washita River. Dr. Walner is buried beside his daughter, Pocahontas, her stillborn child, and James Dulin.

     William Robert Walner was born on 10 October 1879 at Indian Territory, USA. Living with Uncle John Walner at the 1900 Census of Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory. His brother James is also there. The family is shown as Indian. This census gives his birth as Nov 1879 and calls him Robert.1 He was the son of William (Will) M. Walner Jr. and Lena Hotchkin. He married Cornelia (Coral) Mae Owens Cheek at Carter County, OK, USA, on 31 December 1902. Married 7 years at the 1910 census. Called Cornelia M Chick in OK Marriage Records.. William Robert Walner registered for the World War I Draft on 12 September 1918 while living at Wynnewood, Garvin County, OK, USA. The registration card gave additional information on him: "He gives his complete birth date and says that he an Indian. He gives his sife as dependant, Mrs Mae Walner.". He appeared on the census of 1920 at Walker, Garvin County, OK, USA. The census lists the family as: William R. Walner, 41 born OK, parents born OK, gambler or speculator; wife May O., 34, born AR, father born VA, mother born TN; dau Florence M., 16, single, born OK; son William R., 14, single, born OK.. He died on 28 February 1945 at Blackwell, Kay County, OK, USA, at age 65.
Jan Walner said that she had 2 telegrams regarding William Robert (Bob) Walner murders. One was from her grandmother and the other from a man in Blackwell,OK that she did not know. Both were dated March 2nd and one had 1945 stamped on the back. Her grandmother wrote that Jan's dad should contact the Hennenger Funeral Home in Enid, OK. Jan says that Bob was murdered on a Wednesday. That would make the date as Wed February 28th, 1945..
The 1920 census lists his occupation as gambler.. He was buried at Blackwell Cemetery, at Blackwell, Kay County, OK, USA. Plot: BL 160, L/R 7 S 6.

     The 1900 census has him as Robert where the 1920 census has him as William R.
Tentative Rites Set For Enid Resident
Funeral services for W.R. Walner, who died at his home in Enid, Wednesday night, have tentatively been set for 1 p.m. Monday, at the Heninger funeral home, according to word received here by relatives Saturday.
The service will be held if his son W. R. Walner, Jr, who is flying from Maine from his army air force base, arrives in time.
Mr. Walner had visited in Blackwell on numerous occasions and had a number of friends.
He is to be buried in the I.O.O.F. cemetery here, beside his wife.

Census says that he is Indian.1 He was the son of William Robert Walner and Cornelia (Coral) Mae Owens Cheek. William Robert Walner Jr. married Zora Louise Jenkins, daughter of Robert Leon Jenkins and Margaret (Peggy) Waller, on 14 December 1938 at Marietta, Love County, OK, USA. Texas Divorce Records.. William Robert Walner Jr. and Zora Louise Jenkins were divorced on 20 December 1968 at Dallas, Dallas County, TX, USA.2 William Robert Walner Jr. married Hazel Ailene Townson on 29 May 1971 at Dallas County, TX, USA.3 William Robert Walner Jr. and Hazel Ailene Townson were divorced on 8 October 1971 at Dallas County, TX.      His daughter Jan Walner says that her dad was very proud of his Indian heritage and the small town, Wynnewood, OK that he came from. She said that the second marriage only lasted a few weeks and he never again spoke of the women. He was an early aviation pioneer and a commercial airline pilot for over 30 years.

     It is likely that Frances had a marriage to a Mr Munger in England before coming to USA, and that Anna and Nicholas are children of this marriage. The Compiler has done a lot of estimating in putting this family together.
